Identification Notes:
Gyromitra montana is closely related to the European species G. gigas (Krombholz) Cooke and the eastern North American G. korfii Raitviir, and can be common in our montane conifer forests. The cap is yellowish brown to brown or reddish brown and strongly convoluted to folded with an irregular edge that is pushed against or fused with the stipe. The white stipe is thick, short and convoluted to folded, and its interior is composed several anastomosing channels.
